Meat and vegetables gratin (gratin à la viande et aux légumes).

I use to buy a lot of cooking magazine. I love to look at their beautiful pictures. But, usually, recipes never inspire me enough to give a try.
They always seems too complicated or you always need some ingredients just unobtainable.
I tried one or two, but at the end, oddly, mine never looks like the one of the magazine !

But some days ago, I saw this recipe. Well ... I saw this KIND of recipe and I thought I could adapt it, as we say in french "à ma propre sauce".
So... I did it myyyyyyyyyyy way !

We all just loved this dish, even my son, YEAH !! Dance of joy, baby !
And it had the advantage to be a single dish. How can we ask for more ?

Here what you'll need :

  • 600 grams of ground beef
  • 100 grams of rice
  • 1 huge courgette or 2 smalls
  • 2 red peppers
  • 2 red onions
  • 250 grams of canned tomatoes
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of herbes de provence
  • Some grated cheese
  • Some ketchup (non obligatory, so not on this pic)
  • Some olive oil and salt and pepper.
You must preheat your oven at 180°C (350°F /Th6).

Step 1 :
In olive oil, let brow onions and garlic for 5 minutes.

Step 2 :
Add vegetables cut in pieces and let them cook on a medium fire for 10 minutes.

Step 3  :
Then, add meat and let it brown too for 5 minutes.

Step 4 :
During the meantime, cook rice the way you use too.

Step 5 :
When meat seems cook (after 5 minutes), pour tomatoes can and add the third of water.

Step 5 :
Pour one good Ketchup squirt and let it simmer on a low fire, for 15 minutes.

Step 6 :
When it's done, take it off the fire, add your cooked rice, stir all that.

Step 7 :
Pour some oil in a dish, add your preparation and sprinkle with cheese. You can even use mozzarella if you want to.

Step 8 :
In the oven for 25 minutes. That's it.

Bon appétit !
