Today, we went to eat to my oldest sister.
We've got a deal ... She cooks Lasagna, I bake crumble.
This is a successful deal.
She cooks the best lasagna I use to eat.
And she maintains my crumble is the best in the world.
Good deal, I tell you ...
But, there's something else obligatory with the crumble. I have to bake the caramel au beurre salé (salted butter caramel), too.
And then, everything can happen ...
Now, I'm sure you understood we're not totally impartial, in my family.
As for a lot of dishes, each person I know has her own recipe, certainly better than the one of the neighbor.
But I just love this one, because, in my opinion, there's an equilibrium between pie and apples.
Sometimes, there's too much pie or to much apples. This one, for me, is the perfect balance between those ingredients.
Here's what you'll need :
- 2 kg of apples (the one you want)
- 200 grammes of flour
- 210 of brown sugar
- 180 grammes of unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Your oven must be preheated at 210°C (Th 7 / 410°F).
Step 1 :
Peel and cut apples in small pieces (1 or 2 cm).
Step 2 :
With 5 grammes, butter a large dish and sprinkle 5 grammes (or so...) of sugar.
Step 3 :
Arrange apples and pour cinnamon, vanilla and 5 others grammes of sugar.
Step 4 :
Stir all that with your hands. Just a sensual massage for those fruits who will be eaten ... Tragic end, you have to admit.
Step 5 :
In a bowl, mix up flour, sugar and cold butter cut in small pieces.
Step 6 :
You know the principle of crumbles : just crush gently the butter between the thumb and the other fingers, to make some irregular pieces.
Step 7 :
Pour this mixture on the apples. In the oven for 30 minutes.
With caramel and vanilla ice cream ... Something to die for !
And after lasagna ... something which will help you to take a wonderful nap !

Dear Axelle-Do you have oatmeal in your part of the world? Oatmeal flakes? Cook them for hot cereal in the morning? A cup of raw oat flakes in a mug with molasses and mix it up and eat it while you watch the neighbors sheep romping in the field? I have made something similar to your apple crumb before. It is really good. Delicious for breakfast. If you have oats throw some in the crumb mixture because they are really tasty in in. Regards-Jamie p.s. Is this for Donna Booshay? Your apple crumbles looks perfect! My kids love eating crumbles with scoops of ice cream or frozen yoghurt! Definitely a perfect dessert to end a satisfying meal! Yes, you've made a good arrangement with your sis! Each one brings something delicious and everyone gets to enjoy! My sisters and I, we always do that for family gatherings!
