Just an apple pie (juste une tarte aux pommes)

15 days and it will be Christmas.

When I see toy's price, I always think about people who can't offer what their children want. While they still believe in Santa Claus.

Four years ago, my daughter was 6 years old and she wanted a very expensive doll.
I told her it was too expensive and we couldn't buy it.
She replied :
"No problem, mum, I understand. I will ask it to Papa Noël (Santa Claus) !".

I think to people who are alone for this period.
In Provence, until 1920/1930, there was always one plate in addition, on the table, if one poor person would have come in home.

In my opinion and since I open the eyes to the rest of the world, Christmas is, on the same time, the most beautiful and the most sad period of the year.

I seem to be a little depressed today, right ?
NO WAY !
I won't be never depressed because French government don't want to pay anymore for antidepressant but agree to pay for ONE COUPLE OF TENNIS SHOES !
Just because some doctors told running was the best natural antidepressant !!
And let me tell you ... The one who want to make me run without a dog running after me, this one is not born yet !

I'm kidding, of course.
Antidepressants are not the solution, even if they help sometimes and some people need them. Really.
And it's true, running is considered as a wonderful way to feel better.
I've tried to run ... I promise, I WANTED TO RUN SO MUCH !
This was just my body who didn't want...

So I cooked ! This is a good way too to think positive !
My stomach has the positive attitude ! Better than my legs, baby !

Oven preheated at 180° C (350°F / Th 6).

Here what you'll need :
  • One pie crust (you can use whatever you like. This day, I had time and made mine)
  • 8 or 9 apples (it depends on their size)
  • 25 grammes of butter
  • 50 grammes of brown sugar
  • 1/4 teapsoon of vanilla liquid
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Step 1 :
Peel 5 apples and cut them in littles pieces.

Step 2 :
In a pan, let melt 5 grammes of butter and pour the apples.

Step 3 :
Add only 40 grammes of sugar, the vanilla and the cinnamon, stir all that and let it cook for 10 minutes with a lid.
Three minutes before the end, take off the lid to let the water go away.

Step 4 :
In the meantime, peel and cut in very thin slices the rest of apples.

Step 5 :
Unroll your pie crust and pour the apples compote on it, trying to make it the most regularly possible.

Step 6 :
Arrange the apple slices on the compote, trying to overlap each other.

When a circle is done, just begin the other on the opposite way.

Step 7 :
Now, cut the rest of your butter (20 grammes) in little pieces and arrange it all over the pie.

Step 8 :
Sprinkle the last 10 grammes of sugar.

In the oven for 30 minutes !
It's done !
Bon appétit !

  1. Ohhhhhhhh this looks soooo beautiful :D I usually make apple tarte with some kind of custard, eggs and cream and milk, on the apples (without the cooked apples first), but your tarte looks amazing and must be delicious!

And seriously, is the government REALLY giving away running shoes???

    1. Thank you, Dr CaSo, it's a very light pie, you'll see. And honestly, she's is very very good.
What you describe is known here as a "Gateau Normand". I would like to try it too, soon.

For the government point, YES, M'DAME !
The Academic Medicine made a rapport, saying all the good points of sport.
As we try to find a solution against all those antidepressants (you know, in france, we eat antidepressant as candies ...), the government studies the idea to make the Social Security pay sports sessions more than antidepressants.
It is not only for depression.
Regarding on your disease, your doctor could prescribe you this sport or this one ... And the session would be payed back by Social Security.
It would be less expensive, the Social Security would save a HUGE pack of money and it would be better for french health ;)
But you know ... Between the idea and the reality ... There's a GAP !
But I think it would be a great idea.

  2. Axelle--This is very interesting. Here in the USA we are obese, not depressed. I think this tarte aux pommes would not be good, therefore, for we Americans but the running shoes would. Being an American, I want my cake and I want to eat it, too. This is an expression we have here. Maybe I could make the tarte aux pommes, eat it, and then go running? Maybe I should be a sofa's couch and just eat a potato. Jamie

    2. I like your comment too, Jamie ;)
But , in a way, to eat too much can maybe mean a little hided depression, don't you think ? We're talking about "comfort food", that's maybe the reason because we need to be comforted.
ANyway, Jamie, we have to do what we want to do, if we take pleasure to that ;)
